A Wholesome Twist on a Classic Treat
There’s something nostalgic and comforting about marshmallows, whether toasted over a campfire, stirred into hot cocoa, or enjoyed right out of the bag. But traditional marshmallows are often packed with refined sugars and artificial ingredients.
Why You’ll Love Homemade Maple Marshmallows
- Naturally Sweetened: These marshmallows are free from refined sugars and corn syrup. The maple syrup gives them a rich, caramel-like flavor.
- Minimal Ingredients: With just four ingredients, this recipe is clean and simple.
- No Artificial Additives: Unlike store-bought marshmallows, this version contains no preservatives, dyes, or artificial flavors.
- Versatile: Enjoy them in hot drinks, roasted over a fire, or use them in homemade s’mores.
- Fun to Make: Watching the fluffy mixture come together is like kitchen magic and a fun activity for families to try together.

Tips for Success
- Use real maple syrup, not imitation. The flavor of pure maple syrup makes all the difference.
- A stand mixer is ideal for this recipe, as whipping takes 10+ minutes at high speed.
- Work quickly when transferring the mixture to the pan—once it starts to cool, it becomes sticky and harder to spread.

Creative Ways to Use Your Maple Marshmallows
- S’mores: Replace store-bought marshmallows for a gourmet campfire treat.
- Gifts: Wrap in cellophane with ribbon for a sweet homemade gift.
- Topping: Add to sweet potato casserole, lattes, or hot chocolate for a cozy finish.
- Dip Them: Dip one side in melted dark chocolate for a decadent upgrade.
These Homemade Maple Marshmallows prove that you don’t need corn syrup or processed sugar to enjoy a timeless treat. With a rich maple flavor and a cloud-like texture, they bring an old-fashioned charm and a modern, healthier spin to your kitchen. Whip up a batch and enjoy every soft, fluffy, and naturally sweet bite!

Homemade Maple Marshmallows
Ingredients
- 1 cup lukewarm water
- 3 tbsp organic gelatin powder
- ½ cup maple syrup
- 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
Instructions
- Line a 7×11 or 9×13 baking dish with parchment paper and set aside.
- Sprinkle gelatin evenly over water in a small pot and set aside for 5 minutes.
- Add maple syrup and vanilla to a large mixing bowl and whisk.
- After gelatin has bloomed, place on medium/high heat and whisk frequently just until the mixture is about to come to a simmer. We are just dissolving the gelatin. Remove from heat and pour into maple syrup and vanilla mixture.
- Start mixing using a hand or stand mixture with whisk attachment on medium-high. Mixing will take 10-12 minutes. Once you reach stiff peaks the marshmallow mixture is ready.
- Immediately transfer to prepared baking dish and spread using a spatula as quickly and evenly as possible. The marshmallow will start to set immediately.
- Place tray in freezer for 30 minutes.
- After chilling, remove from freezer and cut into desired size pieces.
- Enjoy as healthy treat or in homemade hot cocoa!
Notes:
- Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.
- These marshmallows are softer than store-bought, so they don’t work great for Rice Krispie treats.
