Healthier Peanut Butter Cups
I seriously don’t get people who aren’t obsessed with chocolate and peanut butter combinations. There’s nothing better, in my opinion. But sometimes, you just want to make something healthier than the packaged candy. And this is the place where to start! This easy Copycat Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups recipe requires only 5 simple ingredients. And as I said, if you can melt the chocolate, you’re good to go!
My secret ingredient is to add a little sea salt to the peanut butter mixture. That’s how you’ll get the amazing flavor. Turns out it’s the easiest thing ever and only requires just five simple ingredients: chocolate chips, coconut oil, peanut butter, honey, and sea salt. (I’m sure you already have these in your household now!!).
Healthier Option: It’s nice to know that your homemade ones aren’t laden with all kinds of preservatives and unidentifiable ingredients.
Super Fun To Eat: While they are healthy, you can just lay back and eat them without feeling guilty! They’re super addicting and rich in flavor. Better than the packaged ones, believe me.
Easy to Make: Melt the chocolate and fill in the layers, so extremely easy!
Cheaper Than The Packaged Ones: You can make a lot more healthy peanut butter cups with this recipe, and they’re super rich, you can even make bigger layers if that’s what you prefer! Overall, it is a better and healthier option compared to packaged ones. I highly recommend trying them out, the recipe is fool-proof!
Only 5 simple, healthy ingredients create magic. Some of them can be substituted. Here’s how it goes :
Creamy Peanut Butter – We prefer using natural creamy peanut butter, 100% made from peanuts, but you can also use any nut butter of your choosing. I wonder how these taste with pumpkin seed butter, for example? :))
Coconut Oil – Melting the chocolate with coconut oil helps the chocolate harden and act more like a shell. This oil can’t be substituted, to avoid any unnecessary flavors.
Dark Chocolate Chips – For this, you can also use milk chocolate chips. We love, love, love using dark chocolate chips, like everywhere! For a vegan version, you can use dairy-free chocolate chips.
Sea Salt – This is the secret ingredient I would suggest using if your peanut butter isn’t salted. I highly recommend adding a pinch of sea salt to the peanut butter mixture or sprinkling flaked sea salt on top of the cups.
Honey – To sweeten up the peanut butter layer. You can also use maple syrup for a vegan version.

How to Make Easy Homemade Peanut Butter Cups
This recipe takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes in total to make including time for cooling down the bread! Here’s how it goes :
- Line a cupcake pan with cupcake liners and set aside.
- Melt the dark chocolate chips plus coconut oil in a medium microwave-safe bowl for 30-second intervals, stirring between each one, until fully melted.
- Add 2 teaspoons of melted chocolate to the bottom of each liner.
- Freeze for 15 minutes.
- In a medium bowl, mix together peanut butter and honey, until mixed well. You can also add in a pinch of salt in the mixture.
- Add 1 tablespoon of peanut butter mixture on top of the chocolate.
- Freeze for 5 minutes.
- Cover the peanut butter layer with the melted chocolate.
- Place in the refrigerator for about 1 hour to set.
- Top them off with a pinch of sea salt (secret tip!)

- If you want to try out something different, you can add in almond butter, pumpkin seed butter or any nut butter of your choosing. I think I will try out the pumpkin seed butter for the fall festivities.
- Making these for a party, holiday or special occasion? Add sprinkles on top for a festive touch!
- Definitely add a pinch of salt on top of them when they’re ready, it’s a game changer, trust me!
