Whenever I create that perfect, perfect healthy dessert recipe, I immediately want to share it with you. It’s not a secret that me and my husband love creating chocolate-based healthy dessert recipes, because… WHY NOT? We all deserve some chocolate in our lives, especially when we can create something spectacular and healthy. This banana bread recipe that is healthy and super delicious makes a great breakfast, dessert, or snack option. This one is a keeper, I am telling you!

Healthier Option: Feel free to eat it for breakfast, dessert, lunch, or as a snack. That’s how healthy it is. It’s definitely a great go-to sweet treat recipe that’s guilt-free and incredibly delicious.

Can Be Easily Customized: Make it a double chocolate banana bread or mix in some coconut-sweetened condensed milk for caramel flavor. Make it flourless or egg-less, or even gluten-free. Customize it for your own needs, it will still taste absolutely divine. You can also make it as marbled banana bread, so many great options to choose from!

You Can Make it Into Muffins: Wait, what?! Yes, the batter is also perfect for creating healthy chocolate banana muffins! It’s definitely a win-win recipe.

Ingredients for Chocolate Banana Bread

These are so convenient and accessible for everyone! Nothing too crazy, all are secretly healthy, easy, and super quick to adjust. Here’s how it goes :

  • Ripe Bananas – Make sure they are extremely ripe! The flavor will only be so insanely good when using ripe bananas.
  • Eggs, Salt
  • Unsalted Butter – Only use unsalted butter! As we’re going to use a specific amount of sea salt, you should be using unsalted butter for this recipe.
  • All-Purpose Flour – You can substitute this with gluten-free flour or almond or oat flour to make it even healthier.
  • Baking Soda
  • Granulated Brown Sugar – Easily substituted for coconut sugar, as preferred.
  • Organic Dark Cocoa Powder – This is going to be the key to having chocolate banana bread! We used super dark, organic cocoa powder with no additives.
  • Vanilla Extract – Liquid or can be also used in a vanilla sugar form.
  • Semi-Sweet Dark Chocolate Chips – Because life should be celebrated with extra more chocolate!

How to Make Healthy Chocolate Banana Bread

This recipe takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes in total to make including time for cooling down the bread! Here’s how it goes :

  • Heat your oven to 350°F. Can 9×5 inch loaf pan with parchment paper for easy removal. You can also spray the pan with extra cooking spray, but parchment paper did the job perfectly.
  • Mash bananas in the bottom of
    a large bowl. Make sure the mixture is even.
  • Melt the butter and mix it in with the bananas. Add brown sugar, egg, and vanilla and mix.
  • Place baking soda, salt, flour, and cocoa powder in a sifter or fine-mesh strainer and sift over wet ingredients to get rid of any and all lumps.
  • Stir wet and dry ingredients together until the mixture is smooth.
  • Mix in semi-sweet chocolate chips. Stir well.
  • Pour into the prepared pan and bake 55 to 65 minutes, until a tester or toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out batter-free.
  • Cool in pan for 10 to 15 minutes, then run a knife around the edge and invert it out onto a cooling rack.

As with any quick bread, the flavors will intensify the next day and after. Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4-5.
